20 Juli 2018 | Canada, Nova Scotia Island

It was a bit difficult to leave the Netherlands and say goodbye to family and friends knowing that I would not be returning for quite some time. I spend the last two weeks with my mother in Fryslan which was very nice and gave me some time to do the final preparations. Main goal was to have a light backpack... I can tell you that I failed at this miserably... however as my cousin said, in time you will get used to the weight and the weight will reduce. This is true :-)
After a nice farewell with a dinner and waving committee at the airport (thank you all!!!) it was time to start the journey in Montreal, a nice, clean and touristy city. I especially liked Mont Royal with an excellent view of the city and the bike ride to Parque Rene-Levesque at the other side of town which was a nice workout. The hostel l'Auberge Alternative was very welcoming with all the nice people staying here. We watched the football match between France and Belgium where France was supported heavily due to the roots Canada has with France. I was cheering silently for Belgium, unfortunately it did not help...
After three days it was time to leave with the train to Halifax, after a deep sleep in economy class (it is possible with a jetlag!) and almost 24 hours I arrived in Halifax. In the HI Hostel I teamed up with Sevi, Semi and Sam and the next day we visit Dartmouth at the other side of the bay, not much to do here but we do have a lot of fun. The next day we rent a car (thanks Sevi!) and visit beautiful (though crowded with tourists) Peggy's Cove, Mahones Bay and Lunenberg. A great day and beautiful nature!
To travel without a car is quite difficult in Canada and to find a way to visit Cape Breton and the Cabot trail is challenging. After quite a search I book the bus to Wycocomagh and find Nancy of the Bear at the Lake HI Hostel in Aberdeen who is willing to pick us (Semi joins in) up at the busstop. And lucky us, in the hostel we meet Anais who is happy to share her car wit us for driving the Cabot trail the next day! The views are beautiful and we do some very nice hikes on the Cabot trail (Middle Head, White Point, Skyline). We stay one night in Cape North in a church that has been rebuild to a hostel. It has a nice atmosphere and an open fire at night for roasting some marsmallows. When we return "home" in Aberdeen after two days Semi prepares a nice dinner and we are extremely satisfied.
Next stop is Prince Edward Island for which a seven hour bus journey awaits tomorrow :-) Untill know it has been very easy to travel here with the Canadian people being extremely friendly and Canada is beautiful (please find some pictures uploaded on the travelblog as well). Hope you are all well and will keep you posted on my next adventures. Hasta luego!
